At Nieuwegein, at
one of the most strategic businesscentres in the Netherlands, in full view of
the A12 motorway and directly situated on the bank of the Merwedekanaal, Ballast
Nedam holds headoffice.
In close cooperation with both principal and architect Devier designed and
produces all special furniture for this project. Much attention was paid to the
representative function of the building and the working environment for the
employees.
Immediately on entering the main entrance the beautiful reception counter
strikes the eye. With a playful hint at the long history of this building &
construction company, the front of the counter is clad in pebbles! Of course the
entrance has been furnished with a splendid lobby where waiting is a pleasure.
The various floors have been furnished with both functional and stylish coffee
corners. Standing tables in the corridors between the offices have an obvious
social function. Throughout the building concrete columns have been cled and
provided with lighting that truly catches the eye.
One of the walls in the boardroom has been finished with a blown-up picture that
was specifically presented to us by the principal and which takes us back to the
early years of Ballast Nedam. An example of the latest developments in the field
of HPL, a material that is widely used in interior building.
Staff restaurant and guest restaurant have been tastefully furnished with much
attention to detail: the walls have been clad with removable panelling with
prints. In the guest restaurant a decorative wall consisting of blocks clad with
many different materials has been placed. For the bar and cabinet timber was
chosen from the refuse-heap in order to give authenticity. Eye-catching detail:
the tiles on the edge of the bar.
